Vision Boards: Home Décor with a Powerful Purpose

Vision Boards have Power?

I fully subscribe to the idea that you can have/do/be anything you want in life! I believe in the power of the mind and the power of God and what a force that is when working together! I also love creating custom and beautiful things (obviously, or Smith House wouldn’t even be here!). So, naturally I totally believe in the power of a vision board and the idea that it can be used to decorate your space!

Even if you don’t buy into the power of the mind, manifestation, or God giving you the desires of your heart, at it’s very simplest, a vision board can serve as a constant visual reminder to work toward the things you want to have/be.

I take notes all the time, I dump ideas onto paper and in my phone constantly, but as soon as I close that notebook or app, I’m no longer thinking about those things. Out of sight, out of mind could probably be my life motto because my memory is so bad!

Enter: vision board hanging on the wall!

I see my vision board every time I go into my bedroom and even if I’m not thinking about what’s on it when I leave my room, I HAVE to go back in my room again at some point and will see it again and again. I don’t necessarily HAVE to open the notebook or note app again.

I am going to keep seeing that vision board and the things I want to have and be and do. I am going to keep thinking about it and I am going to keep making small conscious and unconscious choices leading to my dream life because of it! ❤️

Creating a Vision Board

Vision boards are so often made as school assignments that they can feel a little bit childish. But I’m here to tell you that they don’t have to be! You don’t have to collect and cut up old magazines, you can curate or create exact images of what you desire in your life thanks to the internet and design programs! Of course, you can cut up magazines too if that’s what you want.

To create my vision board, I used Pinterest and Google to find very specific things. I then copy/pasted them into Microsoft Publisher to resize and print. From there, I cut everything out and glued it to a poster board and covered it with matte Mod Podge. Once it was all dry, I put it in a poster frame to make it look nice hanging on the wall as a piece of home décor.

If I was going to do this again now (and if you are a little more advanced and not up for a cutting and gluing art project), I would use a program like Canva to create a collage and have it printed to whatever size I wanted.

My vision board includes the type of person I want to be. It includes ways I want to look and places I want to go. It includes the kind of job I want to do and some material things I would like to have. There is no one size fits all vision board. It can be about anything you want.

I also love the idea of making a very specific vision board related to one topic. I have a dream of having unlimited income potential, being my own boss, and investing in and renovating real estate. I think it would be fun to make a vision board dedicated to that topic only!

Lastly, it’s really fun and motivational to be able to look at your vision board over time knowing that you have accomplished things you put on it! As of today, I can “check off” the sleeve tattoo and a couple of the gym related images!

Can I help?
